Wisdom Saves You From The Adulterous Woman!
To live in harmony with God’s wisdom, we must avoid any form of immorality.
Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman,
from the wayward woman with her seductive words,
who has left the partner of her youth
and ignored the covenant she made before God.
Surely her house leads down to death
and her paths to the spirits of the dead.
None who go to her return
or attain the paths of life.
Proverbs 2:16-19 (NIV)
The sensual woman is the second danger from which wisdom will rescue a young man. She is called an adulteress, literally “a strange or foreign woman.” The sensual woman seduces by her words, not just her physical appearance. Her words are literally, “smooth” and flattering, deceiving an unsuspecting young man by appealing to his ego.
Someone has said that flattery isn’t communication, it is manipulation; its people telling us things about ourselves that we enjoy hearing and wish were true. The strange woman knows how to use flattery successfully.
Like the wicked man who left the path of unrightness (2:13), the sensual woman has forsaken her original commitments. She has no respect for God, because she breaks His law (Ex. 20:14); she has no respect for her husband because she violates the promises she made to him when she married him. She no longer has a guide or a friend in the Lord or in her husband, because she has taken the path of sin.
Those who become involved with a sensual woman soon find that they have made a ghastly mistake. Her house is literally a place of “sinking down” to death. This does not mean that anyone who gets involved with a sensual women will die but that her lifestyle is a lifestyle of death – perhaps alluding to spiritual, emotional, and financial death, and if pursued to the ultimate extreme, physical death.
DECLARATION OF FAITH
I am delivered from the seductress who flatters with her words, who forsakes the Guide of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. By wisdom and discretion, my life if kept safe.
I pray this declaration of faith in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen.
