Psalm 7 – A Prayer for Justice

Psalm 7 – A Concern For Justice

We do not know what Cush sad about David but apparently he was one of the “court liars” who flattered Saul and made life difficult for David. When you have a “Cush” in your life do what David did (1 Samuel 24:9).

Be Honest With God

Ps. 7 - Being-Honest-With-GodO LORD, my God, I come to you for protection; rescue me and save me from all who pursue me, or else like a lion they will carry me off where no one can save me, and there they will tear me to pieces.
O LORD, my God, if I have wronged anyone, if I have betrayed a friend or without cause done violence to my enemy—if I have done any of these things—then let my enemies pursue me and catch me, let them cut me down and kill me and leave me lifeless on the ground!

Psalm 7:1-5 (GNT)

David did not say that the enemy was telling the truth, but he was willing for God to examine him and punish him. He had nothing to hide.

Let God Be The Judge

Rise in your anger, O LORD!
Stand up against the fury of my enemies; rouse yourself and help me!
Justice is what you demand, so bring together all the peoples around you, and rule over them from above.
You are the judge of all people. Judge in my favor, O LORD; you know that I am innocent.
You are a righteous God and judge our thoughts and desires. Stop the wickedness of evildoers and reward those who are good.
God is my protector; he saves those who obey him.
God is a righteous judge and always condemns the wicked.
If they do not change their ways, God will sharpen his sword. He bends his bow and makes it ready; he takes up his deadly weapons and aims his burning arrows.

Psalm 7:6-13 (GNT)

It is wise to let God be the judge because His judgment is always right (1 Cor. 4:3-5). We do not see others and ourselves as He sees, so it is best to turn the matter over to Him. David was careful to maintain his integrity and let God be his defense.

Wait On The Lord

Ps. 7 - Waiting-On-The-LordSee how wicked people think up evil; they plan trouble and practice deception.
But in the traps they set for others, they themselves get caught.
So they are punished by their own evil and are hurt by their own violence.

Psalm 7:14-16 (GNT)

Sin has a way of bringing its own punishment if we wait long enough. It is like giving birth to pain and trouble (James 1:14-15), falling into a pit, or getting back the trouble that they try to impose on others.

Give God Thanks

I thank the LORD for his justice;
I sing praises to the LORD, the Most High.

Psalm 7:17 (GNT)

What does it matter that men slander us, so long as the righteousness of God prevails and the name of the Lord is glorified!

My father knows me thoroughly and weights the thoughts and intents of my heart.
The wicked has conceived a strategy against me, but my Father has risen in my defense. He has sharpened His sword and His bow is bent and ready. His anger is kindled because of His love for me. The enemy must now face the Lord of the universe!
All that the enemy conceived against me has become his own undoing. His plan for my distraction has become the pit in which he shall fall. His trouble has returned to his own head and his violent dealings with me have become his own downfall.
The tide has now turned. I have the victory!

I prayed this declaration of faith in Jesus’s name, Amen!
