Everything belongs to God – the glorious eternal King. Let us worship Him and welcome His glorious reign.
NLT Psalm 24:1-2
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.
Because “the earth is the LORD’s,” all of us are stewards or caretakers. We should be committed to the proper management of this world and its resources. But we are not to become devoted to anything created or act as sole proprietors because this earth will pass away.
CJB 1 John 2:17
And the world is passing away, along with its desires. But whoever does God’s will remains forever.
When the desire for possessions and sinful pleasures feels so intense, we probably doubt that these objects of desire will all one day pass away. It may be even more difficult to believe that the person who does the will of God will live forever. But this was John’s conviction based on the facts of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection, and promises. Knowing that this evil world will end, can give you the courage to deny yourself temporary pleasures in this world to enjoy what God has promised for eternity.
Citizens Of His Spiritual Kingdom
NLT Psalm 24:3-6
Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. They will receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior. Such people may seek you and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob.
And this refers to all lies, especially those told under oath. How much God values honesty! Dishonesty comes effortlessly, especially when complete truthfulness could cost us something, make us uncomfortable, or put us in an unfavorable light. Dishonest communication hinders relationships. Without honesty, a relationship with God is impossible. If we lie to others, we will begin to deceive ourselves. God cannot hear us or speak to us if we are building a wall of self-deception.
The King Of Glory
NLT Psalm 24:7-10
Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty; the Lord, invincible in battle. Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. Who is the King of glory? The Lord of Heaven’s Armies—he is the King of glory.
Who is this King of glory? The King of glory, identified here also as the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, is the Messiah himself – eternal, holy, and mighty. This psalm is not only a battle cry for the church. There is a war raging for your soul. But you are not fighting this alone.
