Clear Thinking – Taking Every Thought Captive
Recently I came across an article that definitely got my attention as the Lord has been teaching me how to take my thoughts captive to Him. I did a quick search on Bible Gateway for the word, “thoughts”. There are 48 scriptures on the word, “thoughts” so I think it is important to understand how our thoughts work and how to take them captive.
After all God does hold us responsible for what we think and believe.
No, God has patiently tolerated this kind of ignorance in the past, but now God says it is time to rethink our lives and reject these unenlightened assumptions. He has fixed a day of accountability, when the whole world will be justly evaluated by a new, higher standard: not by a statue, but by a living man. God selected this man and made Him credible to all by raising Him from the dead.
Acts 17:30-31 (VOICE)
I have included the first three paragraphs from the website and then include the link if you are interested in reading the rest of the article. It is long but definitely worth reading.
Many of the problems we experience in our lives, both individually and corporately, result from a lack of clarity and are thinking about what is real, true, and essential. It is rare indeed to find a person who takes the time to think clearly about things. Too often our fast-paced, over-stimulated, jacked-up society simply act like a pack of Pavlovian dogs responding to the bells and whistles of the postmodern “techno culture” rather than as rational agents created in the image and likeness of God.
It doesn’t have to be that way. We can break free of the hypnotic conformity that surrounds us if we are willing to acquire the skill of intelligently listening to the thoughts that are inside our heads – and inside the heads of others in our society. These thoughts, of course, evidence themselves as decisions, which lead to actions, which lead to character formation (inward) and cultural expression (outward).
This section of the site is devoted to the appreciation of clear thinking. With the aid of clear thinking and impartation of wisdom from God, we can be better equipped to “rightly divide the word of truth” and thereby know the truth, which, as the Master has said, will set us free.
