Sinners must quit stumbling along the path of sin, find the way back to God in repentance, accept God’s loving forgiveness and healing, discard their idols, find new life under God’s blessing, and act with wisdom.
Repent and Be Healed
O Israel, return [in repentance] to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled and fallen [visited by tragedy], because of your sin.
Hosea 14:1 (AMP)
Though His people may turn away from Him, God will not abandon them, even though He disciplines them, for He is true to His covenant and His promises.
If we are faithless, He remains faithful [true to His word and His righteous character], for He cannot deny Himself.
2 Timothy 2:13 (AMP)
God pleads with His people to return to Him and forsake the sins that were causing their downfall (Hosea 14:1). He had already told them to plow up their hard hearts and seek the Lord (10:12) and to turn to God for mercy (12:6), but now He talks to them like little children and tells them just what to do. The Lord gives them promises to encourage them to repent.
Take the words [confessing your guilt] with you and return to the Lord. Say to Him, “Take away all our wickedness; accept what is good and receive us graciously, so that we may present the fruit of our lips (gratitude).
“Assyria will not save us; we will not ride on horses [relying on military might], nor will we say again to [the idols who are] the work of our hands, ‘You are our gods.’ For in You [O Lord] the orphan finds love and compassion and mercy.”
Hosea 14:2-3 (AMP)
God had every reason to reject His sinful people, but He chose to offer them forgiveness. Instead of bringing sacrifices, they needed to bring sincere words of repentance and ask God for His gracious forgiveness.
For You do not delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it; you are not pleased with burnt offering.
My [only] sacrifice [acceptable] to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart [broken with sorrow for sin, thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise.
Psalm 51:16-17 (AMP)
DECLARATION OF FAITH
I have turned from my sins and am set on the path of righteousness.
I have confessed my sins before God and received Jesus as my Lord. I now stand in God’s favour and can freely offer Him the fruit of my lips to the praise of His glory.
I enter the presence of God and receive from Him. I continually sow the words of the Spirit in His presence and they never fail to produce a harvest of righteousness in my life.
My Father has given me direction and freedom.
I declare this declaration of faith in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!
